We want you to be in the best hands possible. We've sailed many miles over the years with each Captain - as either cruisers or as racers. We trust them enough to be in charge of our own family members (yes, even mom!) and friends. They know the ins-and-outs of Moon and Stars, allowing you to jump right into your vacation without worrying about learning a new boat all on your own.
I have been sailing since my teens and continue to enjoy my time on the water. My broad and deep experience-base comes from having sailed in a variety of weather and sea-state conditions in locations such as the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, North Atlantic ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Pacific ocean and throughout the Puget Sound region.
I have offshore/ocean experience in both cruising and racing capacities. A recent cruise/delivery of a brand new Lagoon 400 S2 cat (with square top main) from the Caribbean Sea to the Gulf Coast was most fun. A trans-Atlantic boat delivery from the Mediterranean to Caribbean aboard a J160 (52 ft) as well as races from Florida to Jamaica (annual Pineapple Cup) and Florida to Mexico (biennial race) on multiple occasions are all memorable as well. I find sailing often presents both beautiful and humbling realities regardless of boat size. My experience on smaller boats such as the Hobie 16, J22, Olson 25 as well as larger boats such as the Lagoon 400, Beneteau 40.7, J130 (43ft) and J160 reinforces this belief.
I enjoy sharing my passion for sailing at what ever level others may happen to enjoy. I look forward to doing my part for you during your time aboard Moon and Stars.
I hold a USCG 100 Ton license (offshore capable), multiple sailing instructor certifications (ASA) and scuba diving certification (PADI).
I first sailed in England over 36 years ago, and immediately fell in love with the freedom of sailing. As a teacher, when I get to see other people learning the skills for themselves, it is very satisfying! I always strive to match my teaching to the learning style of each individual student. With over 26 years working for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and Outward Bound, I have lots of experience managing sailing programs and teaching adults and youth from diverse backgrounds.
I have chartered in many locations around the world, including: Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, the Strait of Georgia, the Gulf Islands, the Inside Passage to Alaska, the Florida Keys, Maine, the Sea of Cortes, the West Indies, the British Virgin Islands, New Zealand and Tahiti.
I have lived in the PNW since 1993 and I’ve been racing in Puget Sound for 12 years. I love racing because it challenges me to learn more about the wind and the weather. Plus, it is a great opportunity to be with people who share the same passion!
I am currently teaching and coaching for Seattle Sailing Club. I am certified to teach ASA courses from Basic Keelboat through Advanced Coastal Cruising. I’m also certified through RYA, CYA, ISPA, and I hold a USCG Captain’s License.
